The musical Les Miserables, that recently celebrated its 25th Anniversary year, is still on tour this 2012. How wonderful that Les Miserables is performing here in San Antonio’s oldest and greatest theater – the Majestic San Antonio Theatre. Isn’t that awesome news? We certainly think it is!

Les Miserables. It is also known as ‘Les Mis’ or ‘Les Miz’. Les Miserables, in English, means ‘The Miserable Ones’. It is a musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg – from the 1862 novel, ‘Les Miserables’, written by Victor Hugo. The French lyrics of this musical were written by Jean-Marc Natel and Alain Boublil while the English translation was written by Herbert Kretzmer. As of the moment, there are 21 different languages in which the musical has been translated into. Some of the languages are: English, Hebrew, Icelandic, Hungarian, German, Polish, Dutch, Danish, Czech and many more.
Les Miserables has productions played in various countries. Total of 41 countries, some of it are: England, United States, Israel, Hungary, Australia, Austria, Canada, Poland,Denmark, Switzerland, Mexico, Serbia, Argentina, Bermuda, Wales and The Channel Islands. And now we can experience Les Miserables San Antonio at our own Majestic Theatre San Antonio.
Les Miserables musical, being the longest running musical in the world, opened in 1985 in London, England. The musical, set in the early 19th century in France, is about the different stories of the characters involved (prostitutes, factory workers, student revolutionaries and many more) as they fight for their salvation and revolution.

Les Miserables Awards - See Les Miserables San Antonio!
Les Miserables was able to receive a lot of awards. In 1987, the musical won many awards from different awards shows. Les Miserables won the ‘Best Book’, ‘Best Musical’, ‘Best Score’, ‘Best Director’ (John Caird and Trevor Nunn), ‘Best Featured Actress in a Musical’ for Frances Ruffelle, ‘Best Set Designer’ for John Napier, ‘Best Featured Actor in a Musical’ for Michael Maguire, and ‘Best Lighting Design’ at the 1987 Tony Awards (Broadway production NY). The same year, it also won the ‘Best Musical’ at the Drama Critics Awards. Still from the same year, the musical won the ‘Best Musical’, ‘Best Orchestrations’, ‘Best Music’ and ‘Best Set Design’ at the Drama Desk Awards.
In 2001, Les Miserables received the ‘Best Score’ award from National Broadway Theatre Awards. The musical won two Grammy awards already – one in 1991 for ‘Les Misérables Symphonic Recording’ and the other was in 1988 for ‘Best Original Broadway Cast Recording’.
